Artist's Description

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912) was a Dutch-born British painter renowned for his detailed and romantic depictions of life in ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt. A leading figure of Victorian Neoclassicism, Alma-Tadema is celebrated for his masterful use of light, meticulous attention to architectural detail, and vibrant color palette. His works, such as The Roses of Heliogabalus, often depict lavish scenes of classical antiquity, blending historical accuracy with a sense of opulence and beauty. Alma-Tadema’s art was highly popular during his lifetime, and he was knighted in 1899 for his contributions to British art and culture.
