Anders Leonard Zorn (1860–1920) was a Swedish painter and sculptor, celebrated for his remarkable portraiture and depictions of rural life. Born in Mora, Sweden, Zorn displayed early artistic talent and received formal training in Stockholm and later in Paris, where he immersed himself in the vibrant artistic milieu.
Zorn's oeuvre is marked by his mastery of watercolor and etching techniques, and he achieved international acclaim for his ability to capture the play of light and shadow. His portraits, characterized by bold brushstrokes and a keen attention to detail, adorned the walls of the European and American elite.
Famed for his society portraits, Zorn painted numerous influential figures, including three American presidents: Grover Cleveland, William H. Taft, and Theodore Roosevelt. His ability to convey the essence of his subjects, often against rich, dark backgrounds, set his work apart.
