Seth Eastman was an American artist and soldier known for his paintings and drawings of Native American life and military scenes. He was born in Maine in 1808 and grew up in a family of artists. He later attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
