She is known for her captivating images of American landscapes, architecture, and people, which have been featured in various books, magazines, and exhibitions. Highsmith's love for photography began at an early age when she received her first camera at the age of 12. She went on to study photography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and began her career as a freelance photographer in New York City.
