Carol Highsmith is a renowned American photographer, born on May 18, 1946, in Greenville, Mississippi. She is known for her captivating images of American landscapes, architecture, and people, which have been featured in various books, magazines, and exhibitions. Her work is characterized by a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the beauty of everyday life.
Highsmith's love for photography began at an early age when she received her first camera at the age of 12. She went on to study photography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and began her career as a freelance photographer in New York City. Her work has taken her all over the country, from small towns to big cities, capturing the essence of American life.
In 1980, Highsmith embarked on a project to document every state in the United States, which she completed over the course of 30 years. Her collection of over 100,000 photographs is now housed in the Library of Congress and is considered one of t...
