Albert I, Prince of Monaco (1848–1922), was a prominent figure in European royalty, celebrated for his multifaceted contributions to science, oceanography, and the principality he ruled. Born Albert Honoré Charles Grimaldi in Paris, he ascended to the throne of Monaco in 1889, succeeding his father, Charles III.
A progressive ruler, Albert I initiated social and economic reforms, transforming Monaco into a modern and prosperous principality. His passion for the sciences, particularly oceanography, set him apart. Albert I established the Oceanographic Institute in Monaco in 1906, fostering research and exploration of marine life.
