Frederick Arthur Bridgman (1847–1928) was an American painter celebrated for his detailed and vivid Orientalist scenes, drawing inspiration from North African and Middle Eastern cultures. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, Bridgman studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and apprenticed with the French academic painter Jean-Léon Gérôme, who influenced his approach to realism. Bridgman traveled extensively across Egypt and Algeria, capturing everyday life, landscapes, and architecture, which became central themes in his work. His paintings, known for their accuracy and romanticism, became highly popular in both Europe and America, establishing him as a leading figure in Orientalist art.
